Workplace Violence Prevention – Developing The 7th Sense
3 hour Seminar

A 3 hour Power Point presentation and interactive lecture, focusing on Workplace Violence Prevention and personal safety. The goal is to achieve a PRACTICAL path to personal safety by addressing awareness, assessment, and response to the growing issue of workplace violence pertaining directly to the issues facing all types of organizations. The seminar addresses awareness of such issues as threats and threatening behaviors, conflict, conflict resolution, peer abuse, domestic violence, orders of protection, and the signs leading up to an incident of violence that would be involved in the day to day issues facing employers.

The program also involves assessment of situations: preliminary assessment of situations, locations and persons involved, assessment of weapons and potential weapons, as well as a self assessment. Additionally, calming and de-escalation techniques which can be used to defuse or mitigate a violent situation, to managing a situation by managing personal behaviors, and the behaviors of the other people in the situation are also discussed extensively.

Responding to a situation in managing first, your personal behavior then, the behavior of others is discussed, past incidents reviewed and discussion encouraged as to how to effectively and prudently respond to various incidents and levels of violence.

This program is flexible and will focus on the needs facing individuals in both their professional and personal life. It offers PRACTICAL recommendations for addressing the various links in the chain of violence thus promoting personal safety and mitigating civil liability. Time for discussion and class involvement is built into the time block.

Second Component
Threats, Sexual Harassment and Peer Abuse

The second component to be addressed is Peer abuse also known as Bullying.  This seminar addresses the issue of peer abuse in the workplace and an employee’s right to be safe from being a victim of this type abuse.  We combine the program with sexual harassment awareness because sexual harassment is just another form of peer abuse.  However the ramifications of sexual harassment to the employer can be costly. This program attempts to stress the importance of becoming involved when peer abuse is present and to take steps to address this issue effectively. 

This seminar promotes awareness, assessment and response to the some of the more serious components of workplace violence and how an employer or employee can and should respond.  This program also meets the requirements for annual training topics of the NYS WPV Act 2006

How to Respond to a Violent Incident

Third, this seminar will address the awareness of DSS Staff on how to respond to an incident of violence.  Are they aware of policy and procedures, evacuation plans be it full or partial evacuation, shelter in place locations and discussions of how to respond.

This seminar promotes awareness, assessment and response to the some of the more serious components of workplace violence and how an employer or employee can and should respond.  This program also meets the requirements for annual training topics of the NYS WPV Act 2006
